Samsung Executive Receives JEDEC Leadership Award

ARLINGTON, Va., USA – MARCH 12, 2015JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, the global leader in standards development for the microelectronics industry, announced today that Seijin Kim, Senior Vice President, Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics has been presented with the first JEDEC Industry Leadership Award.  Created to recognize the importance of executive level support for the standards development process, this new award honors Mr. Kim’s many years of dedicated leadership on behalf of JEDEC standardization activities.  Mian Quddus, JEDEC Board of Directors Chairman, presented Mr. Kim with his award last week during JEDEC committee meetings in Seoul, Korea.

“Mr. Kim was recognized for his exemplary dedication and exceptional contributions to JEDEC and the advancement of the semiconductor industry,” said John Kelly, JEDEC President. “He has been a steadfast champion within Samsung on behalf of JEDEC standards development work for over 15 years, and we are very grateful for his efforts.”

Mr. Kim played a key leadership role in helping to define essential memory storage standards such as e.MMC (embedded multimedia card), UFS (Universal Flash Storage), and the LPDDRx mobile memory standards.  All of these standards have had a significant, positive impact on the ability of the industry to keep pace with ever-increasing expectations for mobile device performance.

About Mr. Kim
Seijin Kim is currently Senior Vice President, Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics and is responsible for advanced memory development.  His career at Samsung has spanned more than 30 years including overseeing product planning for SSD’s (solid state drives), e.MMC, Mobile DRAM, uSD cards, low-power SRAM and emerging technologies such as PRAM.  Mr. Kim also served as Samsung’s representative for memory standardization with the Electronic Industries Association of Japan for several years.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Sungkyunkwan University in Korea with an emphasis on electronics studies.
